On Tuesday, May 20th oncology patients on 10Center, 11Center and KP4 received care packages filled with: 1 cotton t-shirt designed by artist Erik Parker. Limited edition artwork, "New Order, 2008," Norah Jones CD, Award-winning foreign language DVD, "Mother of Mine," Klaus Haro, Finland, Package of Khushi healing balms, Khushi Spa, Hand-made friendship bracelets, and a Wooden Happy massage Roller. These packages were generously donated and brought to Mt. Sinai Hospital among two other hospitals in NY (Memorial Sloan Kettering and Montefiore) from the Rema Hort Mann Foundation.
Susan Hort started this foundation after her daughter, Rema, died of Gastric Cancer; the foundation is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance "grants" to cancer patients undergoing treatment in the greater New York Metropolitan area, by strengthening their personal support network. Susan Hort came to Mt. Sinai and spoke with patients and provided words of encouragement. So on Tuesday, the patient/family lounges on the oncology floors were bustling with oncology social workers, doctors and nurses who assisted the foundation in handing out over 75 care packages. As one patient on 11Center said "what a wonderful surprise and treat!"
