I’m creating a relationship between the artwork, the art space, and the viewer by employing visual and audible devices. In recent sculptures I’ve juxtaposed found photographs and objects with various light sources to create a mise-en-scene for them to play out in. The unknown actors and actress in the images are recast into new roles, with theatrical light sources such as candlelight, fluorescents, and color gels providing dramatic tension. The sculptures become a site of convergence between past and present, fiction and reality, and drama and banality; where the subjects play out ambiguous narratives with psychological and melancholic resonances.
